The Star Observer and the SGLBA have a special, combined history. Both organisations were founded by Michael Glynn. The Star Observer in 1980 and the SGLBA in 1981.  

Star Observer has been setting Australia’s LGBTI agenda since 1979, with a long and proud history of independent journalism.

They have over 250,000 loyal readers who embrace their publications, which include a monthly national magazine and a popular news website.

Legal Partner

Lander and Rogers has a long history of working with a diverse range of clients. Since 2015 Landers has worked with the SGLBA to provide a range of events for our members and friends with varying topics to support business owners, LGBTI families exploring adoption and other family related needs from a legal perspective.

In 2017 Landers made a generous donation to the associations Good Works Fund to provide two scholarships to university students who identify as LGBTI.

Merivale is one of Sydney’s premier venue, bar and restaurant companies with well known brands like Ivy, The Beresford Hotel – currently the home of Fruits in Suits, Hotel CBD, Establishment and more. 

For almost 15 years, the SGLBA has had an ongoing relationship with Merivale across a number of its venues hosting our monthly Lemons with a Twist and Fruits in Suits networking events. In 2017, we celebrated our 35th Anniversary at The Den, Ivy.

Home to Lemons with a Twist, The Polo Lounge at The Oxford Hotel is a sophisticated venue for our members. Since 1999, Lemons has met at a range of venues.

We came ‘home’ to Oxford Street in 2017 with rave reviews from members and guests about The Polo Lounge, the catering and our own resident DJ Amanda Louise.
