About our Event Partner
The British Consulate General in Sydney is part of the UK’s diplomatic mission in Australia working to strengthen economic, trade, cultural, people-to-people and security links between our two nations for mutual benefit. We also provide consular support to British nationals in Australia who require assistance.
The UK has a long history of advocating for LGBTQ rights and was among the first members of the Equal Rights Coalition, which brought together 33 countries to promote LGBT equality globally.
In support of the British LGBTQ community living in Australia, the British High Commission and Consulates in Australia married 469 same-sex couples from March 2014, when same-sex marriage was legalised in Britain, until the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Australia at the end of 2017.
To continue our support and to celebrate our long history of advocating for LGBTQ rights, staff from the British Consulate General will be marching in this year’s Mardi Gras Parade for the first time.
As part of our Mardi Gras campaign and our ongoing efforts to build connections with a range of diverse Australian communities, we are also delighted to be supporting this month’s ‘Fruits in Suits’.
This is a terrific opportunity for our team from the UK’s Department for International Trade (DIT), who are responsible for the promotion of trade and investment links between the UK and Australia, to connect with members of the SGLBA.
DIT provides free trade and investment services and practical support to Australian entrepreneurs and companies looking to set-up and invest in the UK, and those looking to partner or trade with UK companies. SGLBA members who are interested in finding out about UK opportunities and expertise should get in touch.
The UK has long been recognised as a leading global business centre with a world-class regulatory and legal system and a leading financial services industry. An innovation and tech-driven eco-system also means it is home to the largest venture capital market in Europe and the third biggest globally.
