This grant will be specifically put towards an award for LGBTIQ individuals adversely affected by COVID-19 and are looking to bounce back from that adversity through further education.
The SGLBA Education Fund was set up to provide a financial grant to LGBTIQ individuals over the age of 30 for the purpose of undertaking a course of study in a business or commerce-related discipline.
The QBE Pride Network aided our application and the SGLBA Education Fund Committee wishes to thank these employees for their support.
“We are absolutely thrilled that the QBE Foundation recognised our efforts to support the LGBTIQ community. In this time of crisis, their generosity will help us reach out to even more individuals than we would normally have had the resources to do”

About The QBE Foundation Grant
The QBE Foundation grant enables the Education Fund, still in its first year of operation, to offer meaningful support to those in our community who have been adversely affected in some way by COVID-19.
Whether by helping them with access to re-train, learn a valuable new skill or allow them a second chance at higher education, the grant will undoubtedly help increase their value to the job market..
The SGLBA and the SGLBA Education Fund look forward to working with QBE to bring the reality of these grants to life. According to Gemma Murphy (QBE Pride Committee) “It is important that we find more ways to support the LGBTIQ+ community in these challenging times and it’s wonderful that through our Foundation we have the opportunity to do this.
The Pride Committee were thrilled when the application was approved and we look forward to hearing the stories of impact.”
Applications will open in November 2020, in time for the 2021 academic year. It is truly fitting this initiative will be supporting its first students in 2021 – the SGLBA’s 40th birthday year.
