On Friday 2nd August, the SGLBA launched Lemons Live. An event designed to provide performance artists with a chance to perform their craft in front of a live audience.
20 years in the making.
In 1999, the SGLBA launched Lemons with a Twist. The first Lemons took place on Friday the 1st of October 1999 under the presidency of Simon Davies and board member Vicky Brackenreg at the Nova Cocktail Bar which was on the first floor above what is now Café Cabano at Taylor Square.
What is Lemons Live?
For several years Sydney based artists have struggled to find live performance opportunities with the closure of many venues on the back of state government changes to trading hours and related issues.
Founded in 1981, the SGLBA is a community-based not-for-profit LGBTIQ+ business association. Musicians are business people, looking for ways to grow their brand and derive an income.
We see an opportunity to connect sexuality and gender diverse artists with our members and friends in a relaxed Friday night event at Ginger’s, The Oxford Hotel.
We now have two events, Lemons with a Twist & Lemons Live
Over the course of the year, both events will take place on regular, alternating intervals. Lemons with a Twist is a casual Friday night event with DJ’s and guest artists from time to time. Lemons with a Twist starts at 6:00 pm and concludes no later than 2:00 am Saturday.
Lemons Live, also hosted on the first Friday of a month kicks off at 6:00 pm and concludes at 9:00 pm. The difference in format is 3 live performers. These artists will be musicians, singers, stand-up comedians and more.
Lemons Live is an opportunity for up and coming artists, the SGLBA brings the audience, the artists bring their talent.
You’re welcome here.
All SGLBA events are open to anyone who feels a connection with our diverse community. We extend an invitation to artists, all artists to perform at Lemons Live.
