As 2018 winds down, I wanted to share a few thoughts with you on the year that’s been and share some insights of what is to come in 2019.
Well it has been busy year for the SGLBA. The SGLBA was proud to host the following events:
- Fruits in Suits (Monthly)
- Lemons with a Twist (Monthly)
- Long Table Breakfast (Fortnightly)
- Long Table Canapés
- Macquarie Mid-Year Update
- P&O Lunch
- Rainbow Reflections
- Fairfax & Roberts Diamond Masterclass
- ‘Happy As’ Book Launch
And on top of this we had a presence at
- Fair Day
- Aurora Ball
It is also a great pleasure to announce at the AGM that the association returned a positive financial result of $8,584.91 in the FY 2017/18. This is the outcome of prudent financial management by the whole of the board.
I want to also take this moment to pay tribute to our former President, Mark Haines. After many years on the Board and as President, he decided to step down and I was honoured to take on the role at the AGM.
For the SGLBA, it may be that you don’t see or hear much from our Directors except at an event. I can assure you though, that the amount of time these individuals dedicate to the association far exceeds what you likely expect it to.
Many hours of work are contributed by every Director and Board Associate throughout the term; from meetings, preparing proposals, attending events, updating systems and much more – and all in a volunteer capacity. I would personally say thank you to the strong SGLBA team of volunteers, who have made the events and opportunities this year possible.
Whilst 2018 was a huge year, 2019 will be even bigger!
Fruits is back in the City
As of January, Fruits will be back in the CBD. The new venue, Social @ Verandah, is located at 55-65 Elizabeth Street, Sydney NSW 2000.
We can’t wait to share with you the new space and we believe that Social @ Verandah will be the perfect setting or you to network in a social setting, generate leads, make connections or meet friends and colleagues after work.
More value for members
In January, we will be unveiling a suite of new offerings for members providing more value than ever before. There will be more opportunities to network with like-minded people, promote yourself or your business and access exclusive opportunities, events and discounts.
Be sure to be at Fruits in January and keep an eye on your emails to find out more!
Friends with Benefits
As part of our plan to deliver greater value for SGLBA members, we will reveal a suite of member-only discounts at friendly businesses early 2019. Participating businesses will be known as our SGLBA ‘Friends with Benefits.’
To find out more or to get involved, email us here.
Planning is underway for an event this year. Watch out for communications when this has been finalised.
Christmas is a time to come together and enjoy the simple pleasures of familiar company among those we know best. However, for some of our community, Christmas can be a poignant reminder of the loss and division created by some families, as well difficult childhood memories.
If you know someone who is in that position, then please reach out and talk to them. If you are a person who is in that situation then please know that you have a strong rainbow community around, you to provide support and love during this time of year.
Thank you all for such a great year and I look forward to seeing and chatting with you all in 2019.
Katherine Maver (and the Board)
