SYDNEY, July 31, 2017 – Lemons with a Twist®, the longest running regular lesbian night in the southern hemisphere, is preparing for a milestone 18th birthday party on Friday, 1st of September 2017.
Launched in 1999 by the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Business Association (SGLBA), Lemons with a Twist® began its life as a networking meet-up for women at what was once the Nova Cocktail Bar in Taylor Square. Over the past 18 years, Lemons has evolved into a much-loved monthly calendar event where LBQ women (and their friends) catch up for after-work drinks, a bit of a disco, and raucous fun as the evening wears on.
Longevity is a hard thing to come by for women’s nights in the queer scene but Lemons has defied the odds; on Friday, 1st of September 2017 this iconic event will stage a huge 18th birthday party in the company of old and new friends. Lemons host, Ruby Phoenix is preparing for the community to come out and play.
It’s not every day your Lemons turns 18, so we’re obviously pulling out all the stops. It’s set to be a real family affair, with the guest list spanning the pioneers who’ve been with us from the launch in 1999 right through to new friends who’ve only just joined the Lemons tribe.
“We’ll be indulging in some nostalgic moments with a special presentation – more on that soon – and treating our guests to a night that’s likely to get a little wild, courtesy of our stunning live performer, Amanda Easton and crowd-favourite DJs, Kate Monroe and Amanda Louise.”
– Ruby Phoenix, SGLBA Board Associate, Lemons with a Twist
For this special edition, Lemons will be taking over two stylish spaces at The Oxford Hotel. Gingers will be rocking as the main stage and dance floor from 6pm, with Polo Lounge opening from 9pm to offer guests a chill out zone and outdoor balcony.
Lemons with a Twist® 18th Birthday Party is expected to sell out, so party guests are encouraged to purchase tickets online. Tickets include canapés, a drink on arrival and a long evening filled with birthday hijinks.
About the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Business Association
Established in 1981 The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Business Association (SGLBA) was the first LGBTIQ Business Association in Australia. It was established as a safe place for LGBTIQ business people to meet like-minded professionals during a time when being LGBTIQ was still a criminal offence.
SGLBA provides opportunities to learn, network and promote services from the LGBTIQ community and its allies. We do this by delivering a diversity of events, services, opportunities, and partnerships – either directly, or by partnering with other organisations.
