Stepping Stone House – Sleep Under the Stars 2016

About Stepping Stone House

Young people are our future. Yet in Australia, more than 40% of homeless people are under 25 so long-term shelter & support programs are critical.

“Stepping Stone House” is a charity that aims to make a transformational difference to the lives of homeless young people, starting with a safe, secure home environment and access to education. Our aim is to show vulnerable young people there are endless opportunities to change their lives and how to take their future in their own hands.

Committed for the long-term, we are truly there for our young people as they grow and change, caring and supporting them every step of the Stepping Stone journey. We are far more than a shelter for homeless young people; we’re a dedicated family. Our residents feel they are part of our family where they can grow and develop into confident and optimistic grown-ups.

Focused on learning frameworks and outcomes

Our aim is to equip young people with the life skills they need to fulfil their potential and build a happier, brighter future.  We know we are heading in the right direction as 87% of our young Stepping Stone House people complete year 12 at school and one third (33%) complete tertiary education, as compared to other young people in a similar circumstance.

Addressing homelessness amongst young people requires the collaboration of many stakeholders and community groups. We are part of this eco-system and work with organisations such as OzHarvest to address Australia’s youth-at-risk and youth homelessness crisis.

We are passionate about what we do. Our team works tirelessly to provide the most caring, supportive and safe home possible, understanding the individuality of every young person.

Participate in the Sleep under the stars

Do you want to make a difference to young peoples’ lives? Join us for one night sleeping under the stars with Stepping Stone House.

The Sleep Out will take place the 7th October at Hickson Reserve underneath Sydney Harbour Bridge. This will be a unique experience with the cheapest view of the iconic Sydney Opera House. One night of support will help us give more homeless and at risk young people a bed and safe environment for every night. Families and community groups are welcomed, and as well as raising precious funds you’ll get a unique appreciation of what it’s like to have nowhere to go and no one to turn to.

Our inaugural event in September 2015 raised $54,000 – help us to reach our 2016 target of $150,000 and provide a sustainable secure path ahead for at least four Sydney teenagers.

With your help we can give our youth a bright future.
